چکیده

purpose: to report occurrence, management, and outcome of late-onset traumatic dislocation of laser in situ keratomileusis (lasik) flaps case report: we report a patient with late-onset lasik corneal flap dislocation after blunt ocular trauma occurring four years after surgery. an ultrasound biomicroscopy (ubm) was performed to view the status of flap and determination of flap thickness. results: repositioning of the flap was performed in the operation room. during repositioning, the surface of the bed was debrided and deepithelialized, then the dislocated flap was floated into position with the aid of an iris spatula. a bandage contact lens was placed and topical antibiotic and corticosteroids were given postoperatively. the dislocated corneal flaps were successfully repositioned. after 3 months, the uncorrected visual acuity (ucva) was 20/30 and the best corrected visual acuity (bcva) was 20/25 with a refraction of +0.25-0.5×10. conclusion: lasik corneal flaps are vulnerable to traumatic dehiscence and dislocation. ubm is a useful and easy to perform technique and show the anatomical status of the flaps.    iranian journal of ophthalmology 200921(2):58-61 © 2009 by the iranian society of ophthalmology

Management of a Traumatic Flap Dislocation Seven Years after LASIK

Seven years after uneventful laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK), a 48-year-old woman presented one week after being hit with an iron cord with blurry vision, pain, and irritation. The injury resulted in traumatic flap dislocation, epithelial ingrowth, and macrostriae. Following epithelial removal, the flap was refloated and repositioned. Nine interrupted sutures were used to secure the flap. ...

Traumatic corneal flap displacement after laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK)

BACKGROUND Laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) is the most common and popular procedure performed for the correction of refractive errors in the last two decades. We report a case of traumatic flap displacement with flap folding which occurred 3 years after LASIK was performed. Previous literature suggests that vision prognosis would be closely related to proper and prompt management of trauma...

LASIK Interface-Captured Foreign Bodies after Mild Traumatic Corneal Scratch without Flap Displacement

A 38-year-old woman developed diffusely distributed opacities with crystalline materials in the laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) interface of her eye after she was scratched by a sprig during mountain climbing. No sign of flap displacement was noted. Despite two days of topical and systemic antibiotics therapy, the corneal infiltration with interface opacities persisted. The following day, ...

Confocal microscopy of corneal flap microfolds after LASIK.

PURPOSE To describe the morphological characteristics of microfolds that appear at the corneal flap after LASIK, as seen under confocal microscopy. METHODS Twenty-one eyes that had undergone LASIK were examined, all within 3 weeks to 1 month after surgery. A central scan of the total corneal thickness was obtained by using confocal microscopy in vivo. Confocal images were captured and digitiz...

Photorefractive keratectomy after late traumatic LASIK flap loss.

PURPOSE To present a case of photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) after late traumatic LASIK flap loss. METHODS The initial LASIK procedure was performed in 2003 with a Moria M2 microkeratome and NIDEK EC-5000 excimer laser using a 5.0/9.0-mm aspheric ablation pattern, resulting in 20/20(+) uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) and plano refraction. Traumatic flap loss of the right eye occur...
